anxiety keeping you awake at night?

emetophobiahelp:

i wanted to recommend some special videos that i’ve been using to help me sleep.

to understand the videos, first let me explain asmr. asmr is a tingingling sensation in the head, scalp, back, and peripheral areas that certain people experience when exposed to “triggering” noises such as whispering, tapping sounds, running water, and all sorts of things. it’s kind of hard to explain, so here is the wikipedia article on it.

now, you may not have or experience asmr. not everyone can get the tingles, but that doesn’t matter. the point is that there is a wonderful youtube community dedicated to making asmr videos full of soothing sounds and relaxing whispers.

these videos are excellent at helping people with anxiety, insomnia, depression, and other stressful mental conditions. i’ve used them recently to help me calm down and get to sleep at night. i thought i would list a few of my favorites here for you all in the hopes that they help you, too.

*remember to listen with headphones because most of the asmr artists use 3D microphones.

  • my go-to “getting to sleep” video (includes whispering, tapping, hair brushing, and personal attention)
  • the sleep police is here to help you get some rest
  • a good witch finds you and gets you ready for sleep
  • various relaxing sounds/triggers
  • another sounds/triggers video

also, here is a video if you’re really upset and need a friend to talk to

  • supportive friend here for people with suicidal thoughts, bullying, anxiety, or depression (i know there are other videos like this out there, but this one is just very helpful and i like it a lot)

you are all beautiful and strong, and you deserve peace. sleep well tonight <3

It was about time that I updated my commission post, and let everyone know that I am open for them again! Paying rent and also doing some fun things on the side with friends is starting to get a little difficult, and this would help me out a lot.

These are just the starting prices! It basically breaks down between quick, hour-or-so images, multiple hours, or illustrated images. If you’re interested in commissioning me, email me at shad @ shadandrews.com and we can work out the details to get you an accurate price.

  • Paypal only, please!
  • I can do nsfw commissions, but restrictions apply with that!
  • Image references are nice, but text descriptions are just as good!

If you’re not interested in commissions, but would still like to help me out a little, my sketchbooks are available on gumroad!

Any reblogs to help spread the word would be appreciated. Thanks guys!!

Art Corgi is a site for artists to organize their commissions and sell their commissions in a safe and friendly environment.

They seem to be really interested in taking care of the artists that use the website, making sure they get paid and don’t get screwed over by customers who don’t pay or try and take advantage to artists.

They’re launch day is today! So make sure you guys check it out!

Actually, Please do not sign up for this site.

When it comes to the artist’s work in regards to copyright and liscensing:

The copyright of all art you create and sell through ArtCorgi will remain with you. Your clients will be given a worldwide, fully-paid, royalty-free, non-exclusive, non-transferable, non-commercial, perpetual license with the right to reproduce, distribute, transmit, create derivative works of, and publicly display their commissions for personal purposes.

What this means is that while you can keep the ‘original piece’ all other rights regarding the piece are not solely yours any more.

The client gets to sell your work, print it on any merch they would like, reprint it, make as many copies, alter it.

This is not a benefit for the artist, this is a benefit for the client only. This is a bad ‘contract’.

For example:

A client could commission you to do a drawing a bitchin’ mermaid. So you do and get paid some where between 75-300$. Sounds great right? Maybe that for you equals in at like 10$ or more an hour! ….

but here’s the kicker after you’ve agreed to it…

The client who paid you 300$ for that mermaid, can take that picture, and sense they now own the liscense for the work, and you agreed, they can now while they can’t sell the liscense ( thats what nontransferable means) They can place it on shirts and sell it, for 15$, which adds up! they can do this any where in the world, and they can do whatever they want with your work and never have to even mention you again, let alone pay you a proper price when used like that.

THe clients do not have to state what their uses for the art is going to be, but to put this into perspective.

Art that would go apparel (so say, for redistrubtuion) regardless of royalities, Runs at between 1,800-6,000$ (according to Pricing and Ehtical Guidelines handbook) and that’s not even getting into royalities or reselling copies of the work.  Here, they can print it on a apparel ( the client ) sell, it, and only have to pay you around 75 - 300$

and thats all they have to pay you.

Now, I get that there is a difference between people intending to use the work for just personal use/rp use whatever, and people wanting to make a profit from not paying the artist a decent wage.

That said, Please do not use this site. I can’t stop you, but it is a very bad idea and could up causing you to cut yourself off from making more than what is essentially chump change.

especially in a world were ripping the artist off is so commonplace its becoming increasingly hard to make a living as a professional free lance illustrator.

I reblogged this ArtCorgi thing yesterday thinking it would be a great business, but after digging deeper I realized how absolutely ridiculous them keeping a whole 20% of your earnings is as well. I’ll keep taking commissions they way I’ve been doing, I guess.

This site creates so many opportunities for people to exploit the artists that use it. If you want to keep yourself and your work SAFE while doing commissions, educate yourself when it comes to contracts. Bone up on what rights you as an artist have when it comes to the reproduction and resale of your art after you’ve been paid for it, and be specific and confident when explaining what you don’t want to happen to it before it’s in your client’s hands.

Also (and this is the important part) DON’T trust some cutesy frigging site aimed at fresh-faced and naive artists to protect your virtue in the freelancing world, and ALWAYS read the terms and conditions of any site that you upload your artwork to. The only party that can ultimately keep someone from running off and making money off your work is a LAWYER. You guys gotta be smart and cautious about this sort of thing, and don’t let a cute logo fool you into complacency.

YOUNG ARTISTS: BEWARE OF WEBSITES LIKE THIS. educate yourself on working freelance and commission contracts. there is a difference between being commissioned on tumblr to draw someone’s OCs or fanart, and being commissioned by companies for work that can be reproduced and reprinted over and over. getting paid 300$ for something sounds great until you realize they could be making 12,000$+ off that one purchase.

YOUR ARTWORK IS WORTH SO MUCH MORE THAN THIS. EXPECT MORE, REFUSE TO BE TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. if you do use websites like this, be sure to read every little bit of terms and conditions to see what you’re legally bound to. but if you’re going the freelance route, you really need to beef up on technical shit and be able to form contracts on your own, without a website’s help. educate yourself and be a professional about it.

What people thank an animal should be kept in and what the animal actually should be kept in. (click the pictures)

Not based on personal preference, but observable fact. An animal kept in an environment that is too small is unhappy and stressed. This can absolutely lead to a short miserable life.

I see a lot of people, virtually every day, who have these preconceived notions about what an animal can live in. A hamster lives in a hamster cage of course, because the happy little hamster on the box says so! This cage is for finches, they even keep them in it at the store! My friend had a rabbit and it lived in that cage so I’ll get that one. This sort of dangerous socially accepted neglect is not just limited to bettas and goldfish. Mammals and birds are subject to it as well.

What people don’t realize is that almost all commercial or common cages are completely unacceptable as homes for what they are marketed for. Those guinea pig/rabbit cages? Garbage. Those tiny finch cages? Torture. That cute technicolor hamster cage? A gimmick.

All animals need a certain amount of space for enrichment and general well being. That does not mean the cages someone is trying to sell you. It means the cages that are best.

And to all those people who are thinking “Well I had a hamster in a cage that size and it was fine.”

Stop.

You have only observed your animal. You have only observed the animal in a confined space and most likely showing signs of distress or behavioral problems. But you interpreted it as normal because that is all you know. You haven’t seen rabbits in appropriate sized cages. You haven’t seen parakeets in appropriate cages. You haven’t seen a hamster who is happy.

Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined hamsters. (The same applies to mice, gerbils, and rats):

  • Biting the cage bars
  • Obsessive digging
  • “Laziness” (lack of foraging/exploring)
  • Aggression
  • Pacing
  • Running in circles
  • Obesity

Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined rabbits:

  • Biting the cage bars
  • Running in circles
  • Bouncing off the cage walls
  • Aggression, irritability when being held
  • Cage aggression
  • Constantly banging toys/decor around
  • Obesity
  • “Laziness”

Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined guinea pigs

  • Biting the cage bars
  • Banging their water bottle on the side of the enclosure constantly
  • Aggression toward other guinea pigs or you
  • Obesity
  • “Laziness”

Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined parakeets

  • Feather plucking
  • Aggression to other parakeets
  • Pacing
  • Obesity
  • Repetitive behaviors (constant singing into a corner, going from the same perch to the same perch over and over again)
  • Fearfulness

Signs and symptoms of cruelly confined finches

  • Aggression to other finches
  • Flight tracing: Going from one perch to another in the exact same spot the exact same way over and over again
  • Obesity

Animals are more complex than people give them credit for. They to do all of the natural behaviors they’re built to do. Exploring, foraging, playing, hiding, interacting (or not interacting) with another animal, etc. All of this is taken from them in cages like the ones above.

People need to educate themselves about an animal before getting one. It’s a thought that’s been said a million times over and yet nobody actually does it. The reality is people who want a hamster/guinea pig/rabbit are not going to sit down and read ten articles and three books waiting 2 months while they set everything up unless they are already enthusiasts who are willing to put that much into their pets. I can say from experience that over 80% of the people who buy pets buy them to make their kids happy with no regard to what the animal needs. What is most important to them is getting a present for their child regardless of any consequences that decision comes with.

So we have to try and get this information out there. We have to try and make THIS the general knowledge about these animals.

Resources and very good reads for anyone who has or wants any of the animals listed here. I’ll add more when I find them.

Rabbits: X X X

Guinea pigs: X

Hamsters: X X X

Finches: X

Parakeets: X

This is very important. i have seen so many animal live unfulfilled and short lives because of this.

GET YOUR WEAK ASS SHIT OUTTA THE WHITE TIGER TAG

THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT POST YOU’LL EVER SEE UNDER THIS TAG

Picture #1:
Kenny. Kenny doesn’t have down’s syndrome. Kenny is (was) severely deformed due to generations of inbreeding. This should be the true face of white tiger “conservation”

Picture #2
Zuri was born with a severely compromised immune system due to inbreeding. Here she is with apparently a full bodied case of ringworm.

Although Zuri was born normal looking on the outside, she has an incredibly weak immune system and was near death when she came to live at Noah’s Ark. At her original home, she was hidden from the eyes of the visiting public as she was missing almost all of the hair on her body. Her owners had called their vet in multiple times, but had decided Zuri was a hopeless case and was ready to euthanize her.

Is this not beautiful enough for you? Do you refuse to acknowledge that for every “beautiful” picture of white tigers you reblog there are at least a dozen others like Kenny and Zuri? And countless more that die shortly after birth, hidden away from the public eye to protect this disgusting practice and keep the adoring public in ignorance.

askfirestarterspitfire:

WHAT’S THE THIS THING This Friday, I’m going to be doing a 24 hour charity stream in aid of Dublin Simon Community, a charity for the homeless near where I live. You can read about them on their website here! I’ll be setting up the stream and sound-checking from 11:40pm GMT on Thursday December 19th (my birthday!) and I’ll start the games from Midnight (7pm EST, 4pm PST).

Why them in particular? In October, Dublin Simon’s van was stolen. The van contained collection buckets, hi-vis jackets, signs and other branded stuff, and neither the van nor the stuff has been recovered. Seriously, who steals from a charity?

What’s going to be in this stream? I’m going to start off by playing through Sonic Adventure 2 (hence the City Escape splash image), then Sonic Generations (if I can get it working). After that, if there’s still time, I’m going to be taking votes for the game I play! Options include Bastion, Dust: An Elysian Tail, Jet Set Radio, League of Legends, N, Portal 1 & 2 (this should be fun near the end), Red Faction Armageddon (if you really want me to suffer - I also have all the other RF games), The Stanley Parable, Super Meat Boy, Surgeon Simulator 2013 (another sleep-deprived amusement generator), and WH40k Space Marine. Obviously I won’t get through all of them, but we’ll see which ones I can tackle in the time we have! Also an option is a short drawstream! Quality not guaranteed during sleep-deprived stages.

I’m also going to be on microphone through the whole thing and in a Skype call with some people for a substantial part of it! I’d list who there’s probably going to be there, but it’s going to be so unpredictable who’s going to be there when that I’ve just included some of them in the picture above and left it at that.

Where can I donate! I have a GoFundMe page for this through which I’ll be accepting donations! The page is currently live if you want to give donations ahead of time. My target is very experimental because I have no point of reference, but please give as much as you can spare! Van theft is really annoying.

What if I can’t donate? Reblog!

moreanimalia:

Teacup dogs

1. Teacup dogs are the result of questionable breeding practices

The issues with these dogs begin before they are even born. Teacup dogs can naturally occur as “runts of the litter,” but more often they’re the product of intentionally breeding two undersized dogs. Because the mother dog is so small, she can only whelp a couple of puppies at most and there’s a greatly increased chance of complications. In other words, breeding teacups is extra risky for both the mother and the puppies.

That’s not the worst of it though. Because the dogs are in high demand and can sell for thousands of dollars, there’s a huge incentive for unethical breeders to produce these dogs any way they can. This could include breeding dogs that are closely related, or even deliberately stunting a puppy’s growth through starvation or other revolting methods.

Fraud is another issue. There is no officially recognized teacup breed, and typically no guarantee that the tiny puppy you get from the breeder won’t grow up to be a standard-sized dog. It’s all too easy for someone to pass a puppy off as a bonafide teacup when it’s really just a few weeks younger than advertised.

Of course, with any dog breed, there are going to be irresponsible breeders. However, because many reputable dog breeders refuse to sell teacups, this market in particular is wide open for sleazebags.

2. Teacup dogs suffer from a litany of health problems

Every breed is prone to certain diseases and disorders, but the list of issues for teacups is long and severe. In one category, there are health issues directly related to their unnaturally small size. In another, there are problems that come from inbreeding and other sketchy practices of backyard breeders. Thanks to all of these issues, teacups as a group don’t live as long as their normal-sized counterparts.

No article about teacup breeds can fail to mention hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can cause seizures and death if not carefully monitored. Many teacups have to be fed several times a day (or more) precisely for this reason. Even when they don’t suffer from life-threatening conditions like this, they often have digestive troubles that are a chore to manage.

Other common health issues include liver shunts, hydrocephalus (water on the brain), heart problems, and respiratory problems. Anyone considering a teacup should factor in the potential for higher-than-normal vet bills – not to mention all the frustration and heartbreak that comes with owning a chronically ill pet.

3. Teacup dogs are too fragile for this world

If you’ve ever lived with a small dog, you know that they’re often just big enough to get on and off the couch (in fact, older dogs often need help). Now imagine the couch is two or three times its size. Welcome to the world of the teacup dog.

Micro dogs are easily injured, especially when jumping or dropped from heights. This makes them a singularly horrible choice for families with young children, who will naturally want to carry around the adorable little critter (a tragedy waiting to happen). Other dogs – particularly big dogs – can also inadvertently harm a teacup dog.

Like all small dogs, teacups also have a tendency to get underfoot. The difference is, you’re less likely to see them, and more likely to cause an injury when you kick or step on them.
