The leopard seal (Hydrurga leptonyx), also referred to as the sea leopard, is the second largest species of seal in the Antarctic (after the southern elephant seal). The leopard seal is large and muscular, with a dark grey back and light grey on its stomach. Its throat is whitish with the black spots that give the seal its common name. The overall length of this seal is 7.9–11.5 feet and weight is from 440 to 1,320 pounds.
i like elephant seals IN THEORY cos they look so goofy but every time i watch any documentary about them all they do is fuck and fight extremely graphically and disgustingly to the death so i’m deeply afraid of them
I just googled “why do elephant seals fight” and got a video of one bashing himself in slow, rhythmic, dead-eyed crashes against a truck only slightly larger than itself while said owner just stood to the side, a defeated, perplexed look on his face
im watching planet earth and theres this one small scene where the most round seal ever swims past and id just like to thank david attenborough for bringing us this good good orb seal
ok so i did some seal research tm and it turns out these are the baikal seals and they can only be found in the freshwater lake baikal. i love them
