“So what the hell are you looking at, you ask yourself? There’s obviously a story behind this, so if you’d like to be less confused, the next few paragraphs are for you!

About a year ago, I moved in next door to my brother-in-law. He was for some reason delighted that his brother’s wife loves metal, and let me (read: forced me to) borrow The Human Equation by Ayreon. It was marvelous, I loved it, and right away, the singer playing the part of ‘Rage’ caught my attention. That was a growl I could get behind. So, after about 10 minutes of googling, I was previewing some of Devin Townsend’s newest album, Addicted, on iTunes. 5 minutes later I was buying the album. A little more googling and I saw this music video.

I think what really caught my attention about this album, and about Devin Townsend’s music in general, is his insane range. If growling is the only thing you’re good at, then I generally get tired of you pretty fast. No, Devin’s amazingly talented, and this album is fast paced and, well, different.

I bought a few more of his albums, and, again, fell in love with the very quirky Ziltoid the Omniscient—a concept album about an alien who comes to earth and demands for the perfect cup of coffee to be delivered to his ship in five Earth minutes, lest he destroy everyone.

So, this is the pretty lady (who’se voice in the video is Anneke Van Giersbergen) from the video for Bend It Like Bender! having a drink with Ziltoid. I’ve had this image in my brain for a little while, and while it didn’t turn out the way I thought it would, I’m pretty pleased with the results. Lots of fun on this one, and a big thank you to Devin Townsend for being my number one playlist while I work on comics. =D

A walk down memory lane. The voice acting and dialogue from these games is auditory chocolate melting in my mouth/ears.

R.I.P. Tony Jay (1933 - 2006). No one could voice a manipulative Lovecraftian ‘god’ quite like you.

Edit: I understand why they retconned some of the dialogue for later installments in the series, but am I the only one who prefers the final exchange in this game to the opening cutscene in Soul Reaver 2?

I’m a bit disturbed about how much of the dialogue I still remember by heart after all these years. Oh man, good times.

And you’re not the only one; I really enjoy how genuinely angry and resentful Raziel and Kain sound in this game (especially Raziel). And while this anger is sort of present in the other games as well, it’s really mellowed out in comparison. Here it’s barely contained and aaaah, voice acting is so wonderful in this game.

Although he belongs to one of the most endangered primate species in the world, this sifaka lemur scampers across a track looking totally carefree. 

The black and white lemur shows its dexterity on two legs as it is pictured running along the ground. 

The trick shot, which makes it appear as if there are five lemurs, was taken by Dale Morris using time-lapse photography.
