Antarctica is actually considered to be a desert. A desert is defined by an area that has less than 10 in (25.4 cm) of precipitation per year. It doesn’t snow that much in Antarctica. But the snow never melts and it collects over time. Given thousands of years and its’ transformed into thick ice sheets. (Source)
