Need Book-Help!

I just watched a documentary about Madagascar wild life and I’d like to know if someone could recommend a good - preferably academic - book on flora and fauna in Madagascar? Would be real awesome if you could let me know!! \ (^-^)/ thx

Here’s a book list to get you started:

• Madagascar Wildlife Bradt Guide
• Wildlife of Madagascar — I would not recommend this book for personal reasons, but it may be useful
• Birds of Madagascar and the Indian Ocean Islands
• Birds of the Indian Ocean islands: Madagascar, Mauritius, Reunion, Rodrigues, Seychelles and the Comoros
• A fieldguide to the amphibians and reptiles of Madagascar
• Mammals of Madagascar: a complete guide
• Ants of Africa and Madagascar
• Generic tree flora of Madagascar
• Field guide to the palms of Madagascar
• Field guide to the orchids of Madagascar
• Orchids of Madagascar
• Extinct Madagascar: Picturing the island’s Past

But I would be happy to help with other more specific recommendations should you need them.

brynrose:

People are always so surprised by my relationship to animals, they think I should “love” them a whole lot more than I do. But in 24 years I think the most important thing I’ve learned about caring for animals is that love is not actually a huge part of it. I mean it is, obviously. But it’s so damaging too, it’s like the antithesis to balance. Unchecked it results in dogmatic, self-serving fervor. More important than love to your relationship with animals: respect, understanding, critical thinking, thoughtfulness, kindness, gentleness. Empathy. Perspective. Distance and space when necessary. The ability to let go.
