Ok, recently got back into the somewhat obscure Legacy of Kain series, and something’s bugging me. With all the time travelling shenanigans that go on in this series, did it never occur to anyone to go back and stop Ariel from being killed?
All the shit that happened was because she was murdered, Nupraptor went nuts because of it and poisoned the rest of the circle. So use your shiny time machine to go stop that or at least get the remaining eight into counselling. Then work on replacing the circle with vamps, as per original plans, but without corrupting everybody, or creating enough time paradoxes to make a god cry.
Thoughts?
Yeah, and when you’re at it just stop the whole Hylden vs. Ancients war before the latter get hit over the face with bloodthirst/immortality combo curse which causes the Elder God to sulk and never speak to them again, which in turn makes the Ancients baaw and commit mass suicide, and only Janos is left with the resposibility to find new Guardians who would babysit the Pillars.
Seriously though, my memory of LoK’s plot is kind of rusty, but didn’t the whole “corruption of the Circle” (caused by Nupraptor’s insanity resulting from Ariel’s death) end up to be of no consequence in the end? I mean, it was stated in Defiance (I think?) that even if Kain decided to sacrifice himself at the end of Blood Omen, it still wouldn’t stop the corruption and the Pillars would fall and release the Hylden at one point or another anyway? At the end of Defiance, the Elder God is revealed to be the one manipulating everyone else (both sides of the conflict, actually), and in Soul Reaver 2 he is shown clutching at the already cracked Pillars with his tentacles (even Raziel observes that the more corrupted the Pillars get, the bigger the Elder grows)…Kain does call him “false god” at one point, so maybe it would be more effective to go back in time and destroy the Elder before he grows into the huge Lovecraftian lump of eyes and tentacles and gets his own cult following among the ancient vampires.
But idk, I probably remember a ton of things wrong; sorry in advance!

The thing about LoK and changing events in time is that you need to create a paradox to make it happen. For example:...
