During sex, the male of most octopus species stays as far away from the female’s mouth as possible to avoid becoming a post-coital snack. Or so scientists thought. A detailed study from a team at the University of California, Berkley, on the larger Pacific striped octopus shows that a couple will mate beak to beak and even eat side by side, too (most octopi live alone).
