It’s gross as fuck to tell people that no one will love them until they love themselves. Loving yourself is hard. Listen: you are loved, you are worthy of love and respect, and you can be loved even on the days when you see nothing in yourself to love.

It’s probably pretty eh of me to butt in like that, but I just wanted to say; personally, I never understood the expression in the “if you don’t love yourself no one actually will” way. It’s more like, uh, I will be speaking from personal experience here so it won’t apply to everyone obviously, but if you hate yourself you also have the tendency of picking apart other people’s intention towards you. You could be loved deeply by people but if you don’t love yourself you will find that suspicious and feel like they just pretend to maybe possibly get something from you, or just to screw with your head. At one point, when my mind was in a particularly dark place, I almost cut my friends (and family, to a certain extent) off because I was convinced they can’t actually love me but also because I felt so unworthy of their attention - it still boggles me that some of them stuck with me even though they had every reason to ditch me after I was actively avoiding /being a snarky sad asshole to them for a longer while. Not all of them did though, and it was my own insecurities that shot down those relationships. It took years to realize that.
What I mean is, if you are not familiar with love on a personal level (self-love) chances are you will fail to recognize it in other people. Feeling unloved is terrible but so is having your intentions unfairly judged. Self-love is a form of self-help and, it’s a cliche thing to say yea, but unless you start helping yourself you may unknowingly shoot down people who are trying to help you.
