The Extinct Thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger

The Thylacine was the largest known carnivorous marsupial of modern times.  It is commonly known as the Tasmanian tiger (because of its striped lower back) or the Tasmanian wolf.  Native to continental Australia, Tasmania and New Guinea, it is believed to have become extinct in the 20th century.  It was the last extant member of its family, Thylacinidae;  specimens of other members of the family have been found in the fossil record dating back to the late Oligocene.

The Thylacine had become extremely rare or extinct on the Australian mainland before British settlement of the continent, but it survived on the island of Tasmania along with several other endemic species, including the Tasmanian Devil.  Intensive hunting encouraged by bounties is generally blamed for its extinction, but other contributing factors may have been disease, the introduction of dogs, and human encroachment into its habitat.  Despite its official classification as extinct, sightings are still reported, though none has been conclusively proven.

Yes this could have to do with the fact that Freya the Norse Goddess of love, beauty and fertility drove a chariot pulled by cats.

So, if I ever get married, I fully expect a catmobile.

One of the other reasons why they gave cats to each other was for their valuable skills as mousers. Cats were able to control rodent populations around their properties.

Also, Norse myths are thought to have the earliest literary descriptions of the Norwegian Forest Cat. They were described as large, strong cats that drew Freya’s chariot and were so heavy that not even Thor, God of Thunder, could lift them from the floor. (Source)

They kinda live up to the legend, too. Your average Norwegian Forest Cat is twenty pounds of solid muscle, with claws large and strong enough to climb solid rock. They’ve been known to attack bears when defending their territory. And yet they’re one of the cuddliest breeds out there, particularly noted for being patient with small children.

I have a Norwegian mix, and can attest that she is the cuddliest cat but also insane enough to try and fight a bear.

@seestramattie

i love mythology in any place of the world. It’s all just great!

Also vikings had an affinity for the ginger cat mutation and created the breed, spreading them throughout the countries they raided as they often brought cats on their voyages And that is why there are so many ginger cats! Ginger cats are vikings!!!

You can now catch up my long running webcomic on Tapastic. I’ve been drawing this since forever and now I’ll be regulary updating it’s archives before creating new episodes. Fair warning: A lot of the humor is borderline gross out and NSF but that’s the way I like it  Red IT on Tapastic

A little bit of reflection. Although I never managed to break out with my comics and illustration anywhere, I still really like doing it. Especially “The Dead” strips, they make me laugh, even the old ones from 7-8 years ago.

It is Fucking hard to keep going with comics when you see people around you have so much success, and following while you are forever trapped in obscurity. On those moments I feel likeI was throwing my art into an empty bottomless well. On such days I feel like screaming.

But then I red one particular tweet from Outstar (a kickass Polish streamer and overall dope human being) that reminded me in era of Internet, likes, hearts, dicks and clicks it is easy to lost focus of something that really matters: making something that makes your happy.

So yeah I maybe never be popular cartoonist, but as long as I will be making it for myself to make ME happy, that’s alright. Because that’s what matter the most, making something sincere,  honest and having a blast while making it.
