Photo of the Day – The European Bee-eater (Merops apiaster) breeds in southern Europe, as well as parts of northern Africa and western Asia. The species takes on a serious migration every year, where they winter in tropical Africa, as far south as South Africa.

A rare male painted bunting (Passerina ciris) sits on a fence in Pittsfield, Vermont, US. The bird, sometimes described as a ‘flying rainbow’, normally does not fly north of the Carolinas on the east coast. It’s the sixth time a painted bunting sighting has been recorded in Vermont.
